SEO Content Writing Services

Most small business websites don’t have a design problem. They have a content problem.

The pages that should be attracting and converting clients are either too short, too generic or optimised for the wrong things entirely.

SEO content writing services

Good SEO content does two things at once: it satisfies Google’s requirements for relevance, depth, and quality – and it gives the real person reading it a compelling reason to get in touch. These goals are not in conflict. The best-performing content does both, naturally.

I’m Cheryl Logan Baird, an independent SEO consultant and content strategist based in Johannesburg, working with small and medium-sized businesses. Content creation, grounded in keyword research, built around genuine expertise and structured for search, is one of my core services.

What Makes Content Truly SEO-Optimised?

The phrase ‘SEO content’ is often misunderstood. It doesn’t mean inserting a keyword into every other sentence. Done properly, SEO-optimised content means researching, structuring, and writing each page with a clear understanding of what your target audience is searching for, what they need to find when they get there, and what signals Google uses to evaluate quality and relevance.

For every piece of content I create, this means:

  • Identifying the specific search queries your ideal clients use at each stage of their decision-making process
  • Understanding the intent behind those queries – are they researching, comparing, or ready to buy?
  • Structuring the page so the most important information is immediate and easy to find
  • Writing content that demonstrates genuine, first-hand expertise – not generic information available on a hundred other sites
  • Including semantic keywords and related concepts that help Google understand the full context of the topic
  • Formatting for readability, because a page that visitors immediately leave sends Google a clear negative signal
  • Adding internal links, meta data and heading structure as standard, not as optional extras

Google's E-E-A-T: Why It's an Advantage for Small Businesses

Google evaluates content against four criteria collectively known as E-E-A-T: Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. These guidelines shape how Google’s quality evaluators assess pages – and increasingly, how the algorithm itself weighs content quality signals.

For small business owners, E-E-A-T is actually a significant competitive advantage, if you use it correctly. A business owner with 15 or 20 years of hands-on industry experience can write with genuine first-person insight that a generalist content writer, a content mill, or an AI tool simply cannot replicate. That authenticity is precisely what Google is designed to surface and reward.

The content I create draws directly on your actual expertise and experience. My process involves interviewing you, understanding your methodology and your clients’ real challenges, and building content that positions you as the credible specialist you are. The result is content that both Google and your potential clients can trust, because it’s genuinely earned, not performed.

The Types of Content I Create

Service Pages

Your service pages are your hardest-working sales assets. They need to rank for the right keywords, communicate your value clearly, answer the questions your prospects are already asking, and make it easy to take the next step, all at the same time.

Most small business service pages fail on at least two of these counts. They’re typically too short to rank competitively, too generic to differentiate you from competitors, and too focused on describing what the service is rather than why the client should choose you specifically to deliver it. I rewrite service pages to do all four things well.

Blog and Insights Articles

Regularly published, high-quality content expands the number of search queries your site is relevant for, builds topical authority in your niche, and gives other websites something worth linking to. It also gives you material for social media, email communications, and new business conversations.

I develop content strategies that identify the topics your ideal clients are actually searching for, then write articles that rank, inform, and guide readers toward your service pages. Every article is written to a clear brief, with keyword research completed before a single word is written.

Website Copy

Beyond individual pages, the overall clarity, tone and coherence of your website copy affects both how Google perceives your site and how quickly a visitor decides to trust you. I can review and improve your existing website copy for clarity, keyword coverage, consistency of voice, and conversion effectiveness.

Content Audits

If you have an existing content library that isn’t performing, the problem is rarely the volume of content, it’s usually quality, structure or relevance. I audit existing content to identify what’s worth updating, what’s worth consolidating and what’s worth removing, with a clear recommendation for each piece.

A Transparent Note on AI in My Process

AI writing tools have transformed the content creation landscape, and I use them selectively as part of my workflow, for research, outlining, and exploring structure. I’m straightforward about this because I think honesty here matters.

But AI content has significant limitations that make it unsuitable as a finished product for most business websites. AI tools generate plausible-sounding text based on patterns in their training data. They cannot draw on genuine first-hand experience. They cannot accurately represent your specific process, methodology, or approach. And they frequently produce content that is technically accurate but utterly generic – indistinguishable from every other business in your category.

Generic content does not rank well. It does not convert visitors into clients. And increasingly, it fails Google’s E-E-A-T evaluation. The most effective approach uses AI to accelerate research and structure, while relying on genuine human expertise for the content that actually differentiates you.

What to Expect When Working With Me

Every content project begins with a discovery process – understanding your business, your clients, your competitive landscape and your specific goals. I conduct keyword research relevant to your services and target markets and develop a clear brief for each piece of content before writing begins.

You’ll have the opportunity to review and provide feedback before anything is published. And because I handle all the SEO elements – keyword integration, heading structure, meta data, internal linking suggestions – you don’t need to manage any of that. Your role is to read through, check for accuracy, and approve.

I work with clients internationally. All communication is handled remotely, via email and/or video call, without any loss of quality or responsiveness.

“I can honestly say that working with Cheryl has been one of the best business decisions I’ve made.

She has taken the time to really understand my business and what makes us different. She hasn’t simply optimised our website; she’s improved our Google Business Profile, written content that genuinely sounds like us, and quietly got on with all the behind-the-scenes work that most of us don’t even know needs doing.
What I’ve appreciated most is that Cheryl doesn’t just tell you what needs to happen – she makes it happen.

As a busy business owner, that’s invaluable. She’s knowledgeable, organised, responsive and incredibly patient, explaining everything in a way that’s easy to understand.

I already feel far more confident that our online presence reflects the quality of our business, and I’m excited to see the long-term results of all the work she’s put in.

If you’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about your business and wants to help it grow, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Cheryl.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you write content for a specialised or technical industry?

Yes. I’ve created content for clients across a wide range of B2B and B2C sectors. My process always involves thorough research and a detailed briefing conversation with you to ensure accuracy and authenticity. If a topic requires technical depth, I ask the right questions – and I don’t publish until you’ve confirmed the content accurately represents your expertise.

There’s no magic number, but in most competitive niches, pages under 600 words rarely rank for meaningful search terms. I aim for pages that are as long as they need to be to comprehensively cover the topic and address user intent – typically 800 to 1,500 words for service pages, and 1,000 to 2,000 words for blog articles targeting competitive keywords. Length is always driven by what the topic requires, not by a word count target.

That’s the goal. Before writing, I study your existing content, your About page, and the way you describe your work in communications. The result should feel like a polished, well-researched version of your own voice – not a generic article that could have been written for any business in your sector.

Yes, for WordPress sites. With backend access, I can upload content, set heading structures, add meta data via RankMath or Yoast, add internal links, and format the page for publication. Alternatively, I can provide a fully formatted draft document ready for you or your team to upload.

The primary difference is differentiation. AI tools produce content that is generically plausible – accurate enough, structured correctly, but identical in tone and specificity to thousands of other pieces on the same topic. My content is built around your specific expertise, your process, your clients’ actual challenges, and your competitive positioning. It reads like it was written by someone who knows your business – because the research behind it ensures I do.
